To keep with the style of the CD covers and the music video, I wanted the Advert to almost be like the front cover of a comic book. This would involve using the same fonts as a comic book would and having the same impact that a comic book would have. For this, I used the distinct comic book font and contrasted the colours to that of the background image.

Supporting Product- Digipack CD

This is the CD disk that I created to go inside the CD Case. The CD itself is very simple but continues the theme of the comc book. It is bold and stand out which adds to the impact of the whole product.

After taking a look at previous artist's album covers and techniques, I started to create my own CD pack. As you can see, I kept a strong pattern of blues and reds throughout the cover to give the product an identity. Also, in order to keep the product relevant and in sync with my music video, I added the same speech bubble techniques that I used in the video.

EVALUATION. Question 2

How effective is the conbination of your main product and acillary texts?

Hello, I’m Pete, and this is the music video I created for the artist Jamie t, called Sticks n stones. The song is from Jamie t’s second album ‘ Kings n Queens’ and was the first single to be released from the album.
Jamie t is a solo artist based in the UK and appeals mainly to the younger generation aged from 14-25.

For my artist’s image, I wanted to combine influences from other artist’s music videos such as Oasis’s music video to ‘The importance of Being Idle’. Oasis adopted the ‘Chaplin’ effect to their video and their mise en scene. I also wanted to adopt the imagery used by the techno group ‘Major Lazor’, who as we can see use a continuous comic book theme throughout their media products.

With this in mind, I wanted to create a music video with the characteristics of both old film footage, and a ‘comic book’ layout.
In order to do this, I wanted to establish the mise en scene of my video early, using various close-ups, two shots and even a point of view shot. Also, it was important to establish the setting of the video which involved taking various subjective shots of the surroundings from different positions. This enabled me to communicate the context of the setting to the audience to allow them to experience the environment as nick experiences it.

I wanted the storyline to my video to be presented as a comic book would be read. This allowed me to experiment with a range of comic book fonts which I could use as subtitles throughout the video. I wanted these subtitles to communicate nick’s situation and feelings to the audience where appropriate.

From experimenting with many different effects on Adobe Premier Pro, I managed to control the colours and lighting of my footage to create a cartoon effect on the characters and their surroundings. This, with the inclusion of a white colour matt background, gives the audience the feeling that they are flicking through a comic book.

Throughout the film, I wanted to display a number of vintage film codes which the audience would be able to recognise. These included the traditional ‘caps in the air’ act where my characters throw their hats in the air, and also the legendary ‘Kicking heels’ used in many old films.

My digipack took on the influences that would appeal to my target audience. These included a collection of imagery from such iconic products as Quadrophenia( with the blue, red and white colour pattern) and the famous Che Guevara picture with the contrasting colours in his face.

For my magazine poster, it seems fitting to create one in the style of a comic book cover. Influences for this came from the famous drawings from the MARVEL comics and from William Doziers BATMAN film poster.

The poster keeps in style with my videos theme and also gives the artist the image I was trying to convey.

It also grabs the audiences attention with the use of the bright and bold fonts.

To conclude, I felt that I successfully accomplished my aim of linking old and new media techniques to create my own music video.
I received feedback from fellow piers via my blog, and from members of the public via questionnaires handed out after my video was previewed. There was some positive feedback on my use of common media techniques and my range of shots, however, there were some who believed I should have stuck to one distinct style instead of merging two differing styles together.

I felt that my digipack promoted my artist well and that my music video created the image I wanted my artist to adopt.
